Napoleon Dynamite

A new favorite at the Cameron house is the independent film Napoleon Dynamite. A brilliant, fresh comedy that is so innocent, it's fit for Mormon consumption. After all it was filmed in Preston, Idaho. I can guiltlessly share with you the dirtiest words in the film right here at Wichita Falls Weather. They are "Freakin'" and "Crap!". This film has become a weekly viewer for our family. The keyword there is Family. I don't have to worry about what the kids hear or see. Honestly, I feel there is more questionable dialogue and imagery in "Shrek".
Napoleon Dynamite is the most character driven comedy I've ever seen. What makes it so strong is that these characters are people that live in every town across America and could live next door. Jon Heder, the actor that plays Napoleon, really doesn't seem to be acting, he seems to simply be living out his high school days in front of the camera. Jon Gries, who plays the reminiscient "Uncle Rico" can make me laugh with just one of his many quirky, but subtle facial expressions.
This is one of those "quotes" movies like Blazing Saddles or Monty Python and the Holy Grail where when fans of the film get together they'll trade off lines of dialogue in an honorable show of allegiance.
Though it didn't do well at the theatres, Napoleon dynamite has enjoyed a lot of popularity with its DVD release. This film could be a springboard of sorts for the individual actors, but they may never escape their Dynamite character.
The rest is left to you to discover. Rent it today!
